Well spring has made its presence known which means many homeowners are preparing to make those long-awaited moves. It is always much easier to move in the warmer weather than in the winter and with spring being the first warm weather to arrive, the number of spring time moves are many. Moving your home is a challenge in and of itself, but when you have a garage to move too, the challenges can be a bit overwhelming. With that said, the teams here at The Green Truck Moving & Storage Company have put together some useful garage moving tips to help you with that all important, time consuming task.
Packing Your Garage
Packing up your entire garage in anticipation of your move can be filled with all types of frustrations and stress. Garages, over time, become quite messy and cluttered and tend to accumulate a whole lot of random items. Whether tools, holiday decorations, equipment, hardware of even recreational vehicles and accessories, the garage seems to often be the easiest and most practical place to simply store it all. When making a move, obviously moving your garage is a part of that necessary move. In order to accomplish this task, we highly recommend you follow these simple rules.
Organizing and Sorting Your Garage Items
Most homeowners will not find favor with this necessary task, but indeed it is important to sort out and organize all that has found its home in your backyard garage. Though the task is not a fun one it is certainly a mandatory one. Begin by sectioning off areas in the garage that will hold those items you plan on keeping and taking with you, a section for those items you want to either sell or perhaps donate, and those items that you will simply need to discard. By creating these separate sections, you are able to weed out those things that you do not want to move with you and minimize the number of items that the mover will have to move. By engaging in this simple step, you decrease your moving bill and take a less of a hit on your pocketbook.
In addition to lowering your moving bill, sifting through your garage items helps you to start out at your new home with a completely organized, sorted and clean garage with no excess items that have no value or worth to you. The clutter is gone, the mess is gone, and the clean, fresh garage is now perfectly set in place.
Moving Supplies
If you want to reduce some of your moving costs, procuring your own moving supplies can accomplish just that. In advance of your move, purchase some bubble wrap, moving blankets, boxes, shipping tape, markers and even a couple of dollies.
Dangerous or Hazardous Items
Moving companies are not allowed to transport any items that are hazardous such as flammable items, power equipment that is fueled, explosives, and even some plant soils and fertilizers. When you are ready to schedule your move, you can ask our friendly moving team for a list of those items that we are not able to transport.
Other Garage Items
Your garage is probably home to a whole lot of shovels, rakes, hoes, hoses, and perhaps even axes. If this is the case, these items should be carefully wrapped with tape, pointing handles in the same direction and applying bubble wrap to any pointy sharp parts. Once they are all individual wrapped then bundle them all up in a heavy moving blanket.
Be sure that your toolbox is locked and that any detachable parts for your power tools are removed before packing. If you have any folding outdoor furniture, try to stack the pieces, disassemble any patio furniture or other outdoor pieces you can, and pack any and all cushions separately. If you have recreational items such as bicycles take adequate time to secure them and protect them as best you can for the move ahead.
Labeling Is Critical
The professionals here at The Green Truck Moving & Storage Company highly recommend that all your packed boxes are labelled clearly. Labeling should include the contents of the box or at a minimum which room in the new house the packed boxes belong in. This will make the overall packing and unpacking process both easy and efficient.
